Garden Tour - Joe Dukharan
As you walk up the driveway into the beginnings of the gardens, you will imagine yourself entering Paradise.
To either side are lush plantings of perennials and annuals. There are also topiaries and pots overflowing with
fragrance and color. To your right is a path to follow around the front garden. You will find roses, peonies,
hibiscus, dahlias, iris and lilies depending on the season and annuals such as petunias, geraniums and marigolds.
In the back of the house are many garden "rooms" to entice you, follow the pathways as they meander towards the
koi pond, a gazebo or a graceful arch covered with climbing roses or vines. You will also find flowering trees
such as dogwood, lilac and Rose of Sharon in the Spring, and shrubs such weigela, hydrangea, japonica and buddleja
in the Summer. Everywhere are surprises and Joe uses conifers to great advantage for their texture and color.
In shady areas, hostas, astilbes, heuchera and fern abound. Continue around to the vegetable garden where
Joe grows tomatoes, peppers, hot peppers, eggplants and herbs. You will also find pear, peach, and cherry trees
and don't forget the grape vines! There are many exotic plants in this glorious garden which are wintered in the
garage. This garden will give you many ideas for your own garden and you might even see a lion or two...
