On Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 pm, "Eleanor Roosevelt" will make a personal appearance at the Mohawk River Country Club & Chateau, Rexford, NY, with the program "Meet Eleanor Roosevelt", sponsored by Soroptimist International of Schenectady as the Second Annual Best for Women event. The evening begins at 5:30 with cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner. After the performance, the evening will conclude with presentation of a Best for Women Scholarship to an area woman enrolled in Union University's MAT Program. Tickets will be available in advance for $60.00. Proceeds from the event are used to fund scholarships to area women. "Meet Eleanor Roosevelt" is a three-part historical portrait, presenting the former First Lady and United Nations delegate in the format of a lecture tour, in a personal, informal style. This performance will feature Part II, "Wife, Mother and First Lady," in which "Mrs. R" talks about the four decades of her marriage to Franklin D. Roosevelt. With a frank, often humorous look at some of her struggles, she recalls her years as a timid young wife and mother, "life in a goldfish bowl" as First Lady, and her journey toward personal fulfillment. The one-woman show, directed by Josephine Lane of Brookline, MA, and performed by Elena Dodd of Boston, MA, is co-authored by Lane and Dodd. Following the performance, Ms. Dodd will answer questions from the audience. Lane and Dodd's script is based on Eleanor Roosevelt's Autobiography, works by Joseph Lash, and research at the Roosevelt estate in Hyde Park, New York. Development of the piece was supported in part by the American Association of University Women and the Polaroid Foundation. Director Josephine Lane, an actress since childhood, performed in Boston and New York, premiering new plays and touring schools. Recently she has coached professional actors in Boston. Actress Elena Dodd worked with People's Theatre in Cambridge, Mass., CityStage and New African Company in Boston and Whetstone Theatre Company of Brattleboro, Vermont. She is a member of The Streetfeet Women, a Boston-based company of writers and performers.
