Other's Poems
STRANGE Mildred Bowers Armstrong Strange - to grow up and not be different Not beautiful, or even very wise... No winging-out the way of butterflies, No sudden blindfold-lifting from the eyes, Strange - to grow up and still be wondering, Reverent at petals and snow, Still holding breath, Still often tiptoe, Questioning dew and stars, Wanting to know! RED GERANIUMS Martha Haskell Clark Life did not bring me silken gowns, Nor jewels for my hair, Nor signs of gabled foreign towns In distant countries fair, But I can glimpse, beyond my pane, a green and friendly hill, And red geraniums aflame upon my windowsill. The brambled cares of everyday, The tiny, hundrum things, May bind my feet when they would stray, But still my heart has wings. While red geraniums are bloomed against my window glass And low above my green-sweet hill the gypsy wind-clouds pass. And if my dreamings ne'er come true, The brightest and the best But leave me lone my journey through, I'll set my heart at rest, And thank God for home-sweet things, a green and friendly hill, And red geraniums aflame upon my window sill. |
Other's thoughts
"There can be no very black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of nature and has his senses still"---Thoreau "To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter...to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring -- these are some of the rewards of the simple life." --John Burroughs "When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it. Always." -- Mahatma Ghandi "True wisdom lies in gathering the precious things out of each day as it goes by". --E. S. Bouton Wherever you are, whatever your circumstances may be, whatever misfortune you may have suffered, the music of your life has not gone. It's inside you - if you listen to it, you can play it again". -Nido Qubein "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."-- Ralph Waldo Emerson "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known."-- Blaise Pascal "Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence." - Abigail Adams |
